Terms and conditions

1) All attendees of our nighttime events (including private hire) must be aged eighteen or over. In regards to guided tours, generally speaking our museum is unsuitable for those under the age of twelve. We leave the decision to the discretion of the parent / legal guardian as to whether or not they consent for their child to attend. As such, any guests under the age of eighteen attending a guided tour must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and – if not with their legal guardian – must provide written permission from their parent or legal guardian to attend.

2) STRICTLY NO alcohol, drugs or drunkenness at any of our events. Rowtons’ Museum operates a zero tolerance policy in regards to alcohol and drug use. If you or any member of your group appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or are suspected of having brought either alcohol or drugs into the museum, your booking will be terminated immediately and you will be asked to leave. No refund for any part of the monies paid will be given, neither will you be offered an alternative date.

3) NO heavily pregnant ladies at our nighttime events and/or investigations.

4) STRICTLY NO disrespectful behaviour towards other guests, staff members… or our resident spirits! We care deeply about our guests, our building, and those who call it home, and so operate a strict policy in regards to bad manners. We do not tolerate investigative styles which employ hostile or aggressive tactics designed to inflame responses. If you do this, you will be asked to leave. Likewise, if you engage in any behaviour which threatens the safety and/or enjoyment of our other guests, your booking will be terminated with immediate effect.

5) NO smoking or vaping inside the museum.

6) NO dogs except for guide or assistance dogs. Museum staff reserve the right to request documentary evidence of a dog’s training and/or the organisation that trained them, for example to see your dog’s ID book or card, as issued by a training organisation under the membership of Assistance Dogs (UK).

7) NO candles or other naked flames inside the building.

8) Be aware that our museum is set within a historic, Grade II listed building and as such is not classified as an accessible building. This means that it may be unsuitable for guests with disabilities or difficulty walking. For example, whilst we have welcomed wheelchair users previously (and make every effort to accommodate all visitors) there are narrow places, steps, and stairs throughout the building that hinder access. It is your responsibility to contact Rowtons’ Museum prior to booking to confirm whether or not it is suitable for you to attend. This also means that, especially in the case of evening events, the building gets cold. It is for these reasons that we advise all guests to wear solid, sensible footwear and warm, layered clothing during.

9) Significant portions of our evening events, including paranormal investigations and séances, are conducted in low lighting and / or complete darkness. Whilst Rowtons’ Museum takes precautions to ensure safe access, by deciding to attend our events you do so at your own risk, with it being your responsibility to wear solid, sensible footwear and navigate all areas of the museum, including the cellar and graveyard, with caution. Rowtons’ Museum does not accepting any responsibility for damage(s) to your person or your personal belongings in the course of your visit.

Specifically, during your investigation or private hire event, you may be offered access to the museum’s cellar for the purpose of paranormal investigation or lone vigil. If you choose to accept this offer, you do so entirely at your own risk, acknowledging the inherent danger of accessing this historic part of the building. You will be made aware of these risks verbally in the course of the offer being made. Rowtons’ Museum accepts no responsibility for any injury to your person or damage to your property that may arise from entering the cellar.

10) Whilst filming and photography are permitted at our museum, we ask you to be mindful of the experiences of other guests if attending a ticketed event, a guided tour, or during self-guided general admission. Prior to commencing video or audio recording, you must advise anybody being recorded so that they are aware and have the choice not to be included. If your filming and photography risks impacting the enjoyment and/or privacy of others, you will be asked to stop. In this way, in order to protect the enjoyment and privacy of all guests, live-streaming is prohibited during our public events.

11) Any and all media, including photographs, film, and audio, recorded at the museum may be used by the museum for promotional purposes. This includes posting to YouTube channels and websites owned and operated by Rowtons’ Museum and our partner company Ethereal Productions Limited. In such cases, the owner(s) of said media will be appropriately credited. Similarly, the museum reserves the right to use any and all photographs, film, and audio produced by the museum and/or our partner company Ethereal Produtions (for example, but not limited to, via CCTV ) during your visit, which may include your likeness. If you do not wish to be included in any media produced by the museum and its partner company, please let us know prior to or at the start of your visit.

12) Please be respectful of our artefacts. Many are historic, delicate, and have special requirements. Do not touch or otherwise attempt to handle them. In this way, no attempt to open or tamper with artefact cases will be tolerated. Rowtons’ Museum operates 24 hour CCTV surveillance in all areas of the museum.

13) Whilst you are welcome to use a Ouija board within the schoolroom portion of the museum (including in our séance parlour), the use of Ouija boards is forbidden within the chapel and graveyard.

14) If booking for private hire investigation, Rowtons’ Museum reserves the right for a member of staff to shadow your investigation at all times. As seasoned, full-time paranormal researchers, Laura and Erik Rowton are happy to offer an additional expert eye or ear during your investigation, provide more information about the history of the building or a specific artefact as it becomes relevant, or simply sit quietly and provide your team with the appropriate atmosphere for investigating. Expect to have someone onsite and with you during your visit.

15) No resale of tickets unless you have booked a private hire for public resale. If you have the intention of hosting a paranormal investigation or ghost hunt event in the capacity as an events company, you must make this clear to the museum at the point of booking. We do not allow of public resale on ordinary Teams / Friends & Family private hire.

16) Rowtons’ Museum will not be held liable for any damage(s) or loss to personal property. This includes damage to personal investigative equipment that may be caused by accidental damage, as well as any paranormal or otherwise anomalous activity that you experience during your time at the museum. Your possessions are always your responsibility.

17) Public Liability Insurance is required to for all public resale private hires. You must send the museum a copy of valid and up to date Public Liability at the point of booking or if it expires before your booked date prior to attendance.

18) If you have privately hired for the purpose of public resale, you are entirely responsible for the behaviour of your guests, this includes actively communicating the rules of attendance to them and paying for any damages that occur during your private hire.

19) As many of our events take place late at night, you are responsible for your own travel and sleeping arrangements after the conclusion of an event. Please consider whether or not you are too tired to drive. There are many wonderful hotels and B&Bs throughout Carmarthen.

20) We cannot offer a guarentee that you will experience paranormal, supernatural, spiritual, or otherwise anomalous activity during your visit.

21) All bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you are unable to attend your booking, for whatever reason, we politely ask you to notify the museum, even on the day of the event, so that staff can be informed. Likewise, if you are late arriving, we cannot guarantee that we can wait for you before beginning. Always aim to arrive 5 to 20 minutes before the stated start time (depending upon event type) so that we can check you in and ensure all guests are present.

22) In the rare event that a booking is cancelled by us, you will be offered a choice of alternative dates. On rare ocassions, we may be forced to cancel an event due to an emergency or the event not achieving the minimum numbers required for it to be hosted. In such a case, we will contact you at least 24 hours before the event to organise a reschedule. If you are unable to attend any of the alternative dates provided, a full refund will be issued.

23) By booking with and visiting Rowtons’ Museum of the Paranormal and Spirituality you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in the immediate termination of your booking. You will be asked to leave, with no refund given. The member of staff running your event or shadowing your private hire investigation will use their discretion and will have the ultimate decision to remove anyone they consider to have violated these terms.
