A strand of hair which turned white after an emotionally distressing Estes Method session performed by Laura Rowton at her home on 6th September 2023. The aim of the session was to communicate with the spirit of a girl connected with The Eliza Case who died under tragic circumstances.

This rare phenomenon is known as Canities Subita, meaning ‘sudden greying’ in Latin. Reported throughout history, it refers to hair turning white over a short period of time after exposure to extreme shock, grief or distress. One of the phenomenon’s most famous sufferers was the French Queen Marie Antoinette, whose hair is said to have turned entirely and dramatically white overnight following her capture during the French Revolution. It is because of this famous story that Canities Subita is also known as Marie Antoinette Syndrome.

This single strand of white hair was noticed by Laura Rowton the morning after performing the Estes Method session. During the session, Laura entered a trance-like state which allowed her to channel both the words and emotions of a girl thought to have been murdered. Entranced and in tears, Laura was able to exclaim the horrific phrase, ‘It’s my Daddy!’, thus revealing the identity of the victim’s killer. The session was brought to an end shortly afterwards.
