GHOST STORIES & PARANORMAL CAPTURES
Visitors to Rowtons’ Museum frequently report paranormal experiences, whether that be during a day visit or on one of the museum’s paranormal investigations. Below are a small selection of some of the best captures and stories from the museum.

CHILLING EVP OF A SCREAM CAPTURED DURING 2024 WALK THROUGH
Shortly after getting the keys to Penuel Chapel, we did our first filmed walk through of the building to share it with viewers of our YouTube channel, The Paranormal Scholar. We concluded the video with a sign-off in what it now the Ancestors’ Gallery. During post-production, we realised that we had captured an audio anomaly… what sounds very much like a long, drawn out female scream. Does this eerie EVP relate to a spirit of a woman who once frequented Penuel Chapel? In the years since this was filmed, many people (ourselves and museum guests) have reported encounters with shadow figures in this space, as well as (less regularly) a white lady apparition.
PICTURE FRAME IS LIFTED OFF THE WALL CLOSE TO THE CURSED TRIPTYCH
Upon arriving at the museum in July 2025, the Rowtons discovered a picture frame containing a historical image of the Virgin and Child with a peacock on the floor. When they looked back at CCTV footage from that part of the museum, they discovered it had come off the wall the previous evening. What is more, upon close analysis, the footage revealed that the frame hadn’t simply fallen (indeed the hook on the wall and the back of the frame were both still intact), but rather that it had seemingly been lifted, ever so slightly, to lift off the hook so as to fall to the floor.
In the aftermath, Laura realised that, earlier that day, she had been cleaning the cases in that corner of the chapel. It is her belief that, after cleaning the display for the cursed triptych which the museum cares for (located directly opposite the fallen frame), she had not successfully restored the spiritual protections to the notoriously sensitive object’s case. The result had been a burst of activity from the object that went straight for the picture frame. This object does, after all, have a history (according to its previous owner) of falling and covering its own religious imagery. Did it, thus, take offense at the picture of the Virgin and Child and seek to destroy that also…?
PHOTOGRAPHIC ANOMALY DURING ANGEL SÉANCE
This tremendous image was photographed by museum member Jo Warner during the museum’s first angelic séance, hosted on the 2026 Spring Equinox. It depicts another museum member, Cerys Cooke, after she came down from the chapel’s gallery saying that she felt warmth down one side of her body. It is the third image in a series of three taken by Jo (see below).
The first shows the darkened chapel, with Cerys visible standing in the pew. The second shows Cerys again, this time with a red torch light. The third image is brightly and anomalously illuminated, with an aura of light around her, despite Cerys not holding a source of light. Even stranger, the lady in the photograph has changed. All who know Cerys can attest that this is not her. Even more remarkable, when Jo showed her strange photograph to Cerys, Cerys recognised the lady straight away… It was a her dear departed grandmother. She was able to supply a photograph of this deceased lady, which we are unable to share for privacy reasons, but can confirm it does, indeed, share a likeness with the illuminated woman.

amyscrypt investigates & captures woman humming
Shortly after the Rowtons purchased Penuel Chapel and Schoolroom, they invited their dear friends Amy and Jarrad of YouTube’s AmysCrypt to investigate. During their two-night investigation, the unsettling sound of ghostly humming was captured on camera. Below is that moment, with Amy having heard the humming in real-time.
