GHOST STORIES & PARANORMAL CAPTURES
Visitors to Rowtons’ Museum frequently report paranormal experiences, whether that be during a day visit or on one of the museum’s paranormal investigations. Below are a small selection of some of the best captures and stories from the museum.

halloween table tipping
Whilst table-tipping is a favourite paranormal activity at Rowtons’ Museum of the Paranormal and Spirituality, it is not always something that easily translates to video. After all, many people huddled around the table often results in the activity being obscured from view. During the museum’s Halloween 2025 paranormal investigation, however, a request by Laura Rowton for the playful child spirits to attempt to throw the increasingly active table onto the floor resulted in a rare opportunity for the museum’s CCTV cameras to get a better look at the table-tipping strangeness…
NECROMETER APP SAYS ‘PENUEL’
On 12th July 2025, a couple visiting the museum experienced what must have been a one-in-a-million response whilst using the Necrometer app to communicate with the spirits of the museum. As their response log below shows, they received the word ‘Penuel’, the name of the chapel in which Rowtons’ Museum is located. A Biblical term that is rarely used or heard outside of specific religious contexts, it means ‘Face of God’.

COLIN THE HAUNTED CLOWN DOLL PLAYS HIS MUSIC
Colin the haunted clown doll was donated to us by someone who alleged paranormal phenomena connected to the doll. One of the things that the previous owner reported was that Colin, a doll with a wind-up musical mechanism, would inexplicably play his music downstairs in the house at 2am in the morning.
Fascinatingly, on 27th June 2025, whilst incensing the museum shortly after opening, Laura experienced Colin playing his music not once, but twice. The Rowtons have a second, identical clown doll that they use as a control object for Colin. As a contrast to the donated doll with the haunted backstory, the music on control doll has never started playing by itself.
A LANTERN IS MYSTERIOUSLY SWITCHED ON NEXT TO COLIN THE CLOWN
During a séance hosted at the museum on Sunday 13th July 2025, a battery operated lantern turned on by itself in the haunted object schoolroom. Located on a table next to Colin the haunted clown doll, it was not being interacted with at the time. Indeed, the séance was taking place upstairs, in the séance parlour. When the Rowtons and their guests came down at the end of the evening (at around 11pm), they were surprised to discovered the lantern on, shining out from across the other side of the dark room. CCTV was able to confirm that it had, indeed, turned on by itself, some 45 minutes before the group came downstairs. Was Colin the clown jealous that attention that evening was elsewhere and thus away from him?
